Binance Coin is a cryptocurrency launched in 2017 by Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in terms of daily trading volume. Binance Coin initially ran on the Ethereum blockchain with ERC 20 standard but has since migrated to become the native coin on Binance chain. The popularity of the coin has seen its market cap top $100 billion in 2021. BNB Coin's tokenomics and utility has allowed it to become the fourth largest cryptocurrency behind Bitcoin, Ethereum and stablecoin USD Tether.
BNB can be used to pay reduced transaction fees on the Binance exchange, stake for interest, staked for new coins on Binance's launchpool, and also pay for virtual good or accepted at certain merchants. The total supply of BNB is currently sitting at roughly 169 million as of August 2021. Binance also regularly uses its profits to repurchase and "burn" coins out of circulation, which increases its scarcity, which in turn increases its value over time.
